Romney’s Assault On Fellow Student Just Not That Big A Deal Compared To Barack Obama’s “Sordid High School Past”

The right-wing lying machine is an amazing thing to behold.

The ink was still damp on the Washington Post story about Romney assaulting a fellow high school student with a pair of scissors (even if it was only to cut his hair), when the fun began:

That story called the assault on John Lauber a “relatively innocent” high school prank. You know, sort of like giving someone a wedgy or something.

Breitbard also featured these “stories”:

My favorite of those was the “Does WaPo Know Obama Shoved a Little Girl?” You sort of have to read it to understand how stupid it is, but suffice it to say that a very young Obama giving a girl a “slight shove” on the playground because other kids were teasing him about being her boyfriend is not even remotely the same thing as an 18-year-old Romney forcibly cutting the hair of a boy suspected of being gay.

But we are talking about some serious Obama-haters at Breitbart, so this is not a surprising take.

Just like there are some serious Romney haters herein.

A pox on both, in my view. I’d like to “squash’em (both) like a cockroach”.

Now is anyone, asked again, ready to get off this playground, and consider some serious matters confronting us all? My most recent issue is one of “financial risk”.

And while I am sadden ( NOT gleeful by any means) by the story of John Edwards as it seems to be evolving in his trial, I don’t write a headline of DEMOCRAT SCREWS AROUND ON HIS SICK WIFE!!

“DEMOCRAT SCREWS AROUND ON HIS SICK WIFE!!”

Wasn’t that Newt Gingrich? No wait a minute. Gingrich had the decency to deliver divorce papers to his cancer-ridden wife while she was in the hospital. At least he dumped her first or no he didn’t but he did use a condom. Just a second, he also left “another wife that got multiple sclerosis,” and just like the first wife he left he was also cheating on her.

“And while I am sadden ( NOT gleeful by any means) by the story of John Edwards as it seems to be evolving in his trial, I don’t write a headline of DEMOCRAT SCREWS AROUND ON HIS SICK WIFE!!”

If you did you would be wrong because John Edwards is not representative of Democrats because I for one believe that he should get what he deserves and I think that you’ll find most Democrats share that view. Republicans on the other hand came close to considering Gingrich their nominee with fore knowledge of his past behaviors. John Edwards wouldn’t have chance with Democrats ever again in his lifetime.

Welcome back to the playground, HLG.

Why in the world anyone would try to argue the respective morals of Edwards and Gingrich now is beyond me. But go ahead. Most that read this blog get great joy in the old playground game of “my side is better than your side, ya, ya, ya!”

As well, if you check the long string on a recent blog, herein, you will find what seems to me to be a call for secular truth to guide such moral judgments and ignore, completely it seems a rather long (multiple millenia long) quests for moral guidance throughout human history.

Now go apply your psychologal skills to the Sermon On the Mount to find fault therein. I am sure that will improve the human conditions in our modern society!

I am sure you can find a way to make sure the “meek inherit the earth” through redistribution of wealth, right!!

“Welcome back to the playground, HLG.”

So you’re saying that you missed my posts? Thank you! I missed you too!:-)

“Why in the world anyone would try to argue the respective morals of Edwards and Gingrich now is beyond me.”

I was just responding to a post by another contributor to this blog (his post is quoted below).

“And while I am sadden ( NOT gleeful by any means) by the story of John Edwards as it seems to be evolving in his trial, I don’t write a headline of DEMOCRAT SCREWS AROUND ON HIS SICK WIFE!!”

But you did find it worth using all uppercase letters when mentioning it in your post which is a text equivalent of shouting.

  4. Not wishing to enter an opinion about what Edwards deserves, but I did hear an interview with a law professor — I forget which university — who said that, under the new campaign finance rules, what Edwards did would not be illegal.
    Don’t know, myself,.

  5. In my mind there’s an important bottom line to the subject of this post, and it is that character matters, and it matters a great deal when picking leaders.

John Edwards’ character has been revealed as not just shoddy but disgusting, and regardless of his legal guilt or innocence his political career is ruined, as it should be. It was a near thing, was it not?

Newt Gingrich’s character was examined and found wanting. His political career appears to be at an end, and I think his wanting character was a factor in that.

Considering both those cases, how can anyone say that it’s not appropriate to examine the characters of Romney and Obama? So far, in my opinion, Romney has done nothing terrible but in the comparison, Obama wins hands-down.

It’s a real pity about Edwards. His “Two Americas” hit the nail on the head and he was out in front of the rest of the politicians on the topic.

It’s kind of sad/funny that Edwards tried everything to draw attention to his campaign in 2008, yet the media completely ignored him in favour of Hillary vs Obama. Despite not seeking it, he’s drawn considerably more attention since the 2008 race than he did during it.

The media is a fickle bitch.

      • Sedate,

Thanks for bringing up that “Two Americas” theme he tried to run on. It’s too bad that timely theme came in such a messed up package. If you read “Game Change,” you will not have an ounce of respect for the man afterward.

That implies I had any respect for any politico in the first place. Like most of mankind, they’re all worthless douches on some level. Policy stances and providing/fighting for results are all I give a shit about.

This is why, despite seeming like a decent guy (for a politico anyway), I am lukewarm on Obama…at best. The guy suffers from pussy-itus.

  6. What Romney Did if what’s reported is true is truly disturbing!
To hold someone against their will and assault them is not a small thing at any age, its a criminal offense!
Then you must look into the thinking of someone who would do such a terrible thing to a fellow classmate, what part of his mind is sick, or disconnected to have done such a thing, and maybe he still suffers from it?!
Maybe this is why Romney looks so indifferent, so uncaring, so abnormal when he mentions his dog on the roof, or liking to fire people, or lowering taxes on the rich while cutting programs of survival for the poor!
I often wondered how a Mormon like Romney could lie so much, now we know there is something wrong in the way his mind processes, he can’t remember, or he lies to your face that he didn’t say it! The right would go crazy on him if he was a Democrat!
Is he mentally ill, maybe, maybe not, is he qualified to be President, absolutely not!

    • Bobby B,

The dog on the roof story, along with this latest revelation, does say something about the way he processes things. And whether he is qualified to be prez, the American people will decide that. And I am getting a bad feeling about the election.

Romney was an adult at the time of the assault. Four serious felonies were committed. Conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon, (shears) assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit false imprisonment and false imprisonment. (His fellow students holding Lauber’s arms and legs. No wonder the kid could never get his life going after what amounted to a sexual assault.
Hard to believe that we are going to elect a man as president that is as mentally disordered as Romney. Character matters.
