Rarely, if ever, has a Repubican bigwig like Reince Priebus, the nasty Chairman of the Republican National Committee who daily slanders President Obama on TV, faced what he faced this morning on Morning Joe, as Chris Matthews executed a tilt-a-whirl mat slam on his lying ass, then when Priebus tried to get up, Matthews finished him off with a perfect spinning headlock elbow drop.
This is damned good television:

/ August 28, 2012Chris is often out there on his own, which, despite how frustrating it is to watch his show sometimes, makes him a unique figure on cable. Sometimes I want to throw stuff through my TV right at his head, then other times I cheer him on. I suppose that type of response is good for ratings.

/ August 28, 2012Brokaw sort of blew off Romney’s joke as an “awkward” attempt at humor, or something like that. I thought that was pretty lame. The whole joke thing went over well with that Republican audience, so I don’t know where these folks get off thinking it was a “bad” joke. It worked for that crowd. And that’s the point.

/ August 27, 2012Herb, why should they? Olbermann was canned, not because of stuff he said (helll, he got the best ratings on the network!); it was because he was unbearable. Keith is not a nice person, couldn’t hold onto a staff and has been fired from just about every job he ever had.
Matthews was excited, but hardly stepped over any line.

/ August 29, 2012I was so disappointed in Olbermann. He was a real articulate voice for liberalism on TV, but then he had to be an arrogant asshole to everyone he worked with. On MSNBC he was the king and then decided that a million viewers a night would follow him wherever he went. Wrong. I was pissed at him for leaving the network and rarely watched him after that.

/ August 29, 2012He was thrilling in the beginning – I don”t htink I’d ever heard specifically liberal commentary on TV before. Just thrilling. But eventually it got old and he went all FOX – you know, outrage of the day stuff. Which sadly, is still the model at MSNBC.

Here’s the problem I have with MSNBC, specifically in its daytime programming, after Chuck Todd at 8am: They recycle “contributors” like, oh, Ed Rendell and Michael Steele and others who come on and say such predictable things. And they also feature as guests on one show the hosts of other shows. That drives me nuts most of the time.
The evening lineup, though, of Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell, even though they sometimes have the “usual” contributors, are smart, fast-paced hours, full of information beyond what the network carried all day. And the scripts are well-written.
The weekend morning lineup at MSNBC, especially Chris Hayes but often MHP, is one of the best ways to spend political junkie time. I’ve learned a lot from Hayes’ show because a lot of time is devoted to one issue.

I like the theory bantered about the intertubes that Reince’s parents were big Ian Fleming fans. Possible name choices were:
Doc No Preibus (too oriental); Auric Goldfinger Preibus (too Jewish); Hugo Drax Preibus (too medieval); Seraffimo Sprang Preibus (too weird); and Grubozaboyschikov Le Chiffre Preibus. Reince’s father liked Grubozaboyschikov Le Chiffre because it just naturally rolls off the tongue, but his mother was fearful the child would inherit her family’s long history of dyslexia, and all the rhymical advantages would be offset when the poor child had to spell his first name. And she was concerned he would only get as far as Grub before giving up in despair. The thought of him going through life as Grub Preibus was too great a risk to take. At the last moment the name Rance was agreed upon. Unfortunately, Mrs. Preibus filled out the necessary paperwork.

McElvaine of Millsaps College examined employment data for the 64 years from the beginning of Harry Truman’s presidency to the end of George W. Bush’s. He found that an average of two million jobs were created per year when a Democrat was president, compared with one million annually when a Republican was president.” Ooops!

/ August 31, 2012You know, I watched that Romney video at the GOP convention and the part about Bain explicitly remarks that the featured businesses couldn’t have made it without Bain investor’s money. Now, why do you suppose it matters what investors are supplying the dough?
As far as the jobs created under Obama, his numbers will always be skewed by the dismal economy he inherited, in which a couple of million jobs had disappeared before he figured out how to reprogram the TV remote in the White House living quarters.
