“Let’s just call Beck and Limbaugh FreedomWorks’ whores and be done with it.”

Crooks and Liars

I don’t know how many of you out there caught the following from Media Matters, but it is just too sweet to ignore:

Former FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey says the conservative outlet that helped launch the Tea Party paid Glenn Beck at least $1 million last year to fundraise for the organization, an arrangement he said provided “too little value” for the money.

“The arrangement was simply FreedomWorks paid Glenn Beck money and Glenn Beck said nice things about FreedomWorks on the air,” Armey, the former House majority leader, told Media Matters Friday. “I saw that a million dollars went to Beck this past year, that was the annual expenditure.”

Armey, who left the organization this past fall after a dispute over its internal operations, said a similar arrangement was also in place with Rush Limbaugh, but did not know the exact financial details.

I urge you to follow the Media Matters link and read it all. And if anyone out there, and I am talking to conservative lurkers, doubts that much of the conservative movement these days is nothing more than a vehicle for shysters to, well, shyst and enrich themselves, then, as usual, scribble your doubts in the margins of a $100 bill and send them to me.

I will get back to you with more evidence in due time.

  1. Dick Armey’s language relative to inefficient payments to Beck and Limbaugh is insightful. Armey was the Chairman of FreedomWorks until last September and yet he talks like it wasn’t he who was in charge but someone else. Why is it I have the feeling that many boards of directors have the same attitude, the attitude that they personally aren’t responsible for the actions of the enterprise. Their pay is apparently simply for sitting on the sidelines and dispensing dollops of wisdom, PRN.

Interesting too is the source of the inspiration behind the $8 million hush money Armey is being paid to go away quietly, i.e. one “Richard Stephenson, the FreedomWorks board member and millionaire founder of the for-profit Cancer Treatment Centers of America.” My, my, isn’t it juicy just how lucrative is the business of leveraging the medical treatment of the sick and desperate! No wonder they need Beck and Limbaugh to disparage ObamaCare! Caring for cancer is one helluva big rice bowl!

This whole Armey thing reeks. It reeks like, well . . like shyst.

    • And why have I started seeing so many Cancer Treatment Center ads? Or is it I didn’t recognize them before Stephenson’s shameful waste of money hit the news? Freedom Works represents the right-wing fleece-the-gullible-machine that is now mostly what conservatism has become.
